Switching Providers & Cancelling Your Existing Service

1. Do I need to cancel my current service when switching to Flip?

It is recommended that you do inform your current service provider after you have completed your switch to the new provider. When switching between providers using the same infrastructure (e.g., NBN FTTN to another FTTN provider), Flip will arrange the transfer, and your old service will be automatically cancelled.

If you’re changing infrastructure types (e.g., moving from NBN FTTN/FTTC to FTTP), your old service may not cancel automatically. You must contact your previous provider to disconnect it.

2. How would this impact your billing?

If your old service used a different infrastructure type (e.g., copper-based FTTN vs. fibre-based FTTP), both services can run simultaneously. You are responsible for cancelling the old service.

3. Does NBN automatically cancel my old copper-based service when I upgrade to FTTP?

No. Under NBN Co’s Migration Plan:

  • Copper-based services (ADSL, FTTN, FTTC) remain active for up to 18 months after FTTP activation.
  • You must contact your old provider to cancel the legacy service to avoid ongoing charges.
4. How do I check if my old service is still active?

Contact your previous provider directly or check for ongoing charges on your bank statements.
